There is nothing like a little kitty-spam to start your day, is there? Yes, this is Amulet, all grown up in the short time we’ve had her. She has become a huge part of our lives and especially mine, now that she has been bound as my Familiar.
Now, that was a hard spell and one that I, as a potion master, could not do alone. I took Amulet with me to Glimmerbrook and on into the Magic Realm to have one of the Sages help me with it.
Now, Amulet isn’t the only one who’s grown rather quickly since the last time we spoke. There have been birthdays abounding… Easton officially became ‘an adult’ and not long after him, the twins let their toddlerhood behind for childhood.
Childhood is when magical potential begins to manifest in Magical families. My father and grandparents were all Magic, even though Dad struggled to master until well into adulthood. My sister and I were both very adept from a young age.
Of my twins, I am… unsure. Dad said he knew just looking at us that both Callie and I had strong Magic inside us. But our mother was not, and neither is Easton. Sometimes I look at them and can feel something there, but other times, what I sense is murky waters. I do not know what that means.
On my last visit to the Magic Realm, I spoke to the Sages about it. I was told that there were two types of magical beings. Those who were born with the bloodlines, and those who learn it. My father was born with weak bloodlines, so he struggled, but as he improved his craft, it passed on to his children. Callie and I were adept because of this. It might be possible that one, if not both of my twins have weak or no bloodlines, but with training and practice, they could still wield Magic if it is their choice.
“And what of the Vision our family receives?” I asked, knowing that I, like my father before, received a Vision pointing us in the direction of our life’s greatest pursuit.
“The Vision will come to the one who earns it,” Vercingetorix told me. “Regardless of their powers or lack of, the Vision will reveal itself to the One who is meant to carry on.”
Relieved, I returned home and began preparing for the next birthday in the family…

We celebrated my birthday with another duel purpose trip to Granite Falls. Camping, fishing fun and games for the kids and Easton… plus a little more research and sample collecting for me.
I’d like to think that I balanced out work and play very well. A voice in my head that sounds a lot like my Dad keeps telling me to enjoy these times with the kids because before I know it, they will be all grown up.

There was one intense moment where I wished that I was better at spells than potions. The log Caden was sitting on caught fire from a stray ember from the campfire. Dad knew a spell that could extinguish flame. I do not. Easton, Dawn and I raced to the river to fill buckets of water to douse the flames. One bucket each before it was out! Luckily, Caden was not harmed in any way. Scared, yes, but fine.
Although… his homework did not survive. A small loss compared to what could have happened.
