Drifter Challenge – House 3, Ch. 4

Okay, so… remember last time? We went camping? And I asked Aleah to move in with me? And then we… //blushes//

… yeah well, the thing about that is… she kind of got pregnant…

We arrived at the hospital and got her checked into a room. There is a lot of waiting involved in having a baby. And as a first-time father, I was pretty nervous about it. Being nervous makes me hungry, so I went and got some food from the cafeteria. When it’s all over, we get to bring home our little pride and joy, Daphne Caine.

Time flies by pretty fast and before I know it, Daphne is a toddler. She is adorable (if I do say so myself) loves bedtime stories and loves to play with her daddy. Since my job as a fisherman has me home every day by 9am, we spend a lot of time together.

When I am not fishing or playing with Daphne, I am still working on my Magic training. Sometimes that means going to the Magic Realm and getting a little input from the Sages.

The other day, I discovered a cow plant berry while fishing. I planted it, and of course, the end result is a hungry cow plant

Before she died, my mother sent me a box filled with old notebooks and journals. Some of them were hers… so were my grandfathers. Inside, I found a lot of priceless information about all sorts of plants and herbs… especially the cow plants. There was a note attached to one of them from my Aunt Diana. She was a Celestial… well, half anyway, and she helped her father with his plants and stuff. Anyway, she had added a note about the cow plants… I have to admit that I didn’t read through it all because life took another unsuspecting turn…

Aleah was pregnant, this time with a son whom we named Ean, and I decided to ask her to marry me. She said yes, of course, and we eloped. I don’t really have the funds for a big wedding… and Aleah didn’t mind just having a quick ceremony with her my sister and her brother as witnesses.

Afterward, however, Aleah and I decided that I would get a different job. I have been talking to some people who work in the field of Conservation and I decided to make the leap from part-time fisherman to fulltime Environmentalist. It was a move that made sense, given both my interests and the fact that… well, a growing family has needs.

And boy! Were they growing! These were busy times in our household. Two toddlers in the house, both of us work. Aleah’s brother, Maxmillian, came over a lot to help out and play with the kids. We were also slowly working on building and decorating the house. Filling it up with things a family needs.

Finally, Daphne was ready for her transition to childhood.

Given them being close in age, Ean soon followed her.

I was also working hard on leveling up my gardening skills and had to grow a new cow plant (sadly, the first one died due to the fact that I couldn’t figure out what to feed it. It never quite said in my grandfather’s notes).

But I’m trying really hard to balance my work and my family. Aleah and I took our family (including Dawn) to the new park in town. The company that built it came into the area on my recommendation, because of the hard work our family has done in the area. The park is gorgeous and so much fun! It’s good to have a place to go and unwind. To make lasting memories with your family.

Looking back on my life, I realize now that things would have been so much different if I actually had gone to Sulani. I never would have met Aleah… never would have had the wonderful family I have now. Or learned to skate.

It wasn’t a life I would have chosen for myself, but I’m very happy with how it ha turned out.
