Exciting as woo-hooing in the tent might have been, life was not easy for Aaron and Jade at first. The tent was uncomfortable, their official Parks & Recs bathroom was stinky… and yeah… just…
“Ugh. The word Jade used was ugh.”
And who can blame her?
She started asking if the Anonymous Benefactor would let us put up some kind of more permanent shelter.
“Even a trailer. We were in the process of discussing it when she told me she needed to go to the doctor.”
It seems Jade had been sick a lot lately, especially in the mornings. Or whenever she went near the bathroom. Which, considering their tent was near the bathrooms for convenience, was all the time. And also at work. She figured it was just a bug, until the test results came back with the shocking news that Jade was pregnant.
Two things happened pretty quickly after that.
“One – we got married. My son -”
Or daughter.
“But it turned out to be a son. Booth.”
Yes it did. I’m sorry to interrupt.
“Right. My SON was going to born legit, with a mother and a father both. And TWO – we finally got the house Jade wanted, so Booth didn’t have to live in a tent.”
Are there any pictures of the house?
“Not really no. It was small and nothing to write home about. Two bedrooms, a bathroom and everything else all out there.”
No eat-in kitchen with a breakfast nook and fancy game room?
“Who has time for all that when there’s this big-assed park to build?”
Fair question.

Booth looks a lot like his mother.
“Yeah, he does. I was hoping he’d be more like me, but I guess since I love how his mom looks –”
//laughs//
So… did you guys just basically spend all your time working and gardening, and… building the park up?
“Oh no! After Booth got a little older, we took a family vacation to Granite Falls. I read about these exotic plants I could get there and I wanted them for the garden.”

“We should have gone more often but life got busy — what with work and all. Booth going to school and –”
You never did say what work you found, you know?
“Didn’t I?”
No.
“Um… probably best if I didn’t. You might not look too overly kindly on it.”
I see. //sigh// Well, the Rules do state that Gen 1 had to be a Criminal, Culinary or a Painter. If Aaron’s not sharing, I guess we know which he picked.
“I didn’t exactly have qualifications for the others, and working nights means I’m free all day to do all this gardening.”
There is that. So how is the garden coming?
“It’s doing pretty good. I got a Cow Plant, and a whole bunch other plants. There’s almost to that Perfect stage in this picture.”
Cow plants are pretty dangerous. How do you manage?
“I do alright, mostly because I raised it, but everyone else has trouble with it. Jade hates the thing with a passion!”
I’ll bet she does!
So who are all these people?
“Booth’s friends. He’s very social and always has been. The girl there? That’s Kiersten Jang. They’ve been sweethearts practically since elementary school.”
Really? That’s interesting. But it kind of looks like things are moving along for you and the community.
“Oh — yeah. Actually… we’re moving soon!”
We are???
“Umhmmmm. The plants are all ready and I fulfilled all the other aspirations required months ago.”
So you did.
“And it’s about time, too, since I’m getting older now. It’s time to pass the torch on to Booth.”
His goal is to build some low-come housing and complete the Big Happy Family aspiration.
“Yeah… and he’s been asking why we didn’t have more kids. Didn’t really have room for them before. Also, couldn’t afford it.”
That sounds like a co-out.
“Okay, okay… I just didn’t want to screw up more than one kid’s life on my watch. Are you happy now?”
Not really sure that Booth’s life has been so screwed up, but I guess that’s not the point. The point is… Aaron, Jade and Booth will soon be moving into new digs, because they all survived Gen 1 of this challenge!
