Drifter Challenge- House 1, Ch. 2

Oh, hello again… I didn’t see you there.

As you can see, I have been busy working about the town of Oasis Springs. Very, very busy. Life, I guess you could say, has overcome me.

Those sparkles in my abdomen? It turned out that the beings from the beam of light? Left me with a little more important of a gift. More on that later… because with this gift came someone else…

So, if you haven’t figured it out, Diana was the gift the Celestial Beings left to me. A child, grown of my own ‘womb.’ Well, men aren’t supposed to have wombs, so I don’t really understand it much, but as soon as I saw her, I just knew she was a miracle.

And I had another Vision the night she was born. The Vision said that Diana would bring me to the one I was destined to be with, and through her would be born an Heir.

I was to continue to learn my craft both as the Caretaker of Oasis Springs and as a Mage. To hone my spellcraft in order to teach my children.

After Diana was born, I met Zoe through a mutual friend. We quickly fell in love and …

… Well, you know how these things go….

I asked her to marry me, of course, and despite me not having even a decent roof over my head, she said yes.

Not long after, our daughters were born.

Yes, daughters. Twin girls to be precise.

Britta and Callie Caine. Both of whom were born showing a natural affinity towards being Magical.

I utterly failed at spellcrafting. Does no one remember that part but me? But the Visions revealed that I would bear offpsring who would need me to know it.

I returned to Glimmerbrook and the Magic Realm to confirm this with the Sages. They all said yes. Utterly… three yes answers and they all performed rituals to grant me Luck, because the road I was treading… straddling the world of Magic and Non. Interfering with Celestial Powers.

Morgyn said I needed more Luck than they could give.

L. Faba pulled me aside and said she, too, had seen a Vision. That one of my daughters, on her 18th birthday, would receive a Charge, similar to the one I received in my Vision, and that, she should take it up, and not Fail. Because if either of us failed, then our line would fail, and with it, two communities of innocent peoples.

Oasis Springs and Willow Creek.

No small amount of pressure there, right? Yeah, I thought not.

In the meantime, life in Oasis Springs moved on.

This is the house Zoe and I have been building. The bare bones of it anyway.

I’ve got a job as a glorified gardener. I go around, tending all the lots, planting, harvesting, researching. Everything. I’ve got my hands into everything in Oasis Springs. I’ve brought in plants from Granite Falls, Glimmerbrook and Midnight Hollow.

It’s a tough job. And then I come home to building the house, spending time with Zoe and the girls…

And practicing magics in Glimmerbrook with the new Sages. When Simeon died, he passed his Magic onto Loki Beaker.

… I should tell you about Loki.

In another life, Loki Beaker was a scientist in Strangetown. He had dealings with the Celestials, and also with other Occultists. He did… unspeakable things to innocent people.

And then one day… his life was changed. He met Simeon Silversweater, the Sage of Practical Magic. As a scientist, Loki did not believe in our Magic, but he knew of there occult beings, so he thirsted for the knowledge Simeon had.

They made a bargain. Simeon would teach him, if he agreed to give up his ways.

Loki confided in me, that he did n’t believe Simeon at first, but the more he learned, the more the evilness drained out of him. And then he Ascended and became pure in his Magic.

Why did he confide in me? Because Morgyn had told him of my failure as a spellcaster, living the Normal world and trying to revive a dying community. Loki said he could help. He understood their world. He understood their science. And he even knew some of the Celestial ways as well.

He promised to help train me, to help me and my girls.

Time marched on. It was not without its ups and downs.

Diana, as a young adult.
Britta, as a teenager
Zoe and Callie
I’m teaching Callie to make potions
Diana has a lot of attitude.
Our family, eating a meal together

The years have flown by too fast. Since Diana did not receive a Charge, as L. Faba said one of my daughters would, I assume it is to fall to either Britta or Callie. They are teenagers with only a season left in school. Their young adulthood looms near.

I worry which one it will be, and how I can help her. But for now, we are a happy family.
